Prompt #1

On a given day a biomedical researcher goes to his lab and participates in a meeting where he and his co-workers plan the week's experiments. They set up goals and divide up the work in the most efficient way possible. The researcher then prepares the lab station and performs safety procedures before he begins. As the researcher works, he makes detailed notes so that he can accurately publish his findings. Once the researcher begins the experiments he must pay close attention to all of the various machines to make sure that nothing goes wrong. Sometimes the researcher may have an intern to mentor. In this case, the researcher will allocate an easier experiment to the intern and carefully instruct the person how to carry out and record the project. Additionally, the researcher will keep the intern updated with how the entire project is going as a whole and give the intern background information on the research topic. As the researcher overlooks the intern's work he makes sure his portion of the project is going smoothly. When they are done, the researcher and the rest of the lab clean their work stations and discuss what they discovered that day.

Hi,

I noticed we both wrote about medical researchers so I thought I would comment on your blog (it was very well written by the way :) Anyways, when reading your blog I though the strongest key concepts and qualities you pulled from the profession and conveyed were that of working hard (ie- when you said, "he must pay close attention to all of the various machines to make sure that nothing goes wrong)" and the concept of always being prepared and safe (performs safety procedures before he begins)." I thought these were greate concepts and values to pull out about a medical researcher because if they weren't safe and didn't follow their projects closely, it could potentially hurt the public who might need their products in time of a medical emergency. I sure would hope they would follow all procedures closely. I felt we have similar ideas of what the importance of the profession is. (check mine out if your interested).

I like this post in that it seems like the researcher and the intern are both helping eachother out, even though the medical researcher has more respect in the field. The values which I see emerging about a biomedical researcher in this post are a mutual respect for the intern. This is a great concept to pull out because it's an attractive quality to pull somebody into wanting to become a medical researcher. This post makes me realize how important biomedical research is to our health and the level to which some people must go to ensure that we are all safe and sound.
